Del Mar Die Casting has produced thousands of waveguides and switches over the past 30 years. These parts are usually plated with a copper/nickel substrate and a final layer of gold to provide the minimum electrical resistance and for corrosion protection. Several of these parts enabled Del Mar Die Casting to win a long series of "Die Caster of the Year" awards, a series of industry recognitions that has never since been duplicated by any other die caster. The castings have very tight dimensional tolerances and the surface finish requirements are extremely rigid for this type of application. Originally produced from machining bar stock, these parts were converted to die castings at a savings so large that only a few hundred production parts were needed to recoup the cost of the die cast tooling. The repeatability of the die casting process makes the critical tuning of these waveguides much easier than those parts produced from any other process.
