description of parts.
As evidenced by the accompanying photo, this zinc die cast component is extremely small with very thin walls. It is used as a coax terminator for military electronics. The annual quantity requirements are very large, making die casting the most economical process to manufacture this deceivingly intricate part. There are details on the two legs as well as intricate details inside the angled cored hole that cannot be seen with this photo. In its end use, this part is soldered to the end of a wire, thus it requires tin plating for good adhesion for the solder. Zinc was chosen for its long die life and excellent metal flow characteristics, allowing Del Mar to cast this exacting part with the required density while still accomplishing a surface finish that will accept the hard-to-plate tin coating. |
