Magnesium Die Casting
High purity magnesium die castings have proven
their value in automotive components, computers,
power tools and recreational equipment. These
lightweight castings provide toughness and
durability, excellent atmospheric corrosion
resistance and superior overall performance
compared to other materials. Magnesium alloys
combine low component weight with cost competitive
manufacturing. Thin walls, net shapes, cored
holes, high casting rates and long die life
are typical advantages to be gained from using
magnesium die castings.

Other advantages include
excellent machinability, good damping capacity
and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) shielding
properties. High purity alloys and modern
design techniques to avoid galvanic corrosion
qualify magnesium for applications in corrosive
environments. AZ91D is the most commonly used
alloy for hot chamber die casting because
of its excellent castability and high strength-to-weight
ratio. |
