Many different Housings and Cases are manufactured as aluminum die castings. Because of their durability, they can be placed on heavy equipment and in motororized vehicles. This case is 5.5" x 4.5" x 2.5", but is thin walled, so only weighs 0.61 lbs. The aluminum die casting process allows for the casting of fine details and this part is no exception as the lamp socket features are cast in place and can be readily seen in the part on the left in the picture. After casting and trimming, the only machining is the tapping of 10 diameters. Following the tapping operation, the parts are black anodized to achieve a protective finish that is also attractive.
