A manufacturer of automated tape storage systems needed to simplify and reduce the cost of his storage unit. By using an aluminum die casting, he was able to replace a three piece assembly of machined and fabricated parts with this one die casting. Cast from A380 Aluminum, this Gripper Housing is 6"x 3" x 2" and weighs a scant .35 lbs. due to it's minimized wall thickness. The amount of machining has been greatly reduced, because the die casting has many of the necessary feature cast in place. The part is finished with a gold alodine coating to protect the surface before it is mounted in the cabinet for final assembly. In this case, no other surface finish is applied, however, the parts could also be painted or poweder coated if required.
